Voices in Action – Empowering Young People Through Active Participation

From March to May 2026, the First Scout Unit of Skopje successfully implemented the Voices in Action project as part of the Voices of Change initiative, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.

The project aimed to encourage young people to become more active members of their communities by strengthening their understanding of youth activism, civic engagement, and volunteering. Through non-formal education, participants explored how they can contribute to positive change and take a more active role in decision-making processes.

The project began with a three-day Educational Camp, where participants attended interactive workshops, discussions, and practical activities focused on youth participation, leadership, teamwork, and active citizenship. In addition to the educational programme, participants took part in volunteer activities around the Scout House “Chichko Boro”, reinforcing the importance of responsibility, ownership, and community service.

The knowledge and experience gained during the camp were later transferred to younger scouts during the Spring Camp. As part of the programme, an educational activity on youth activism and active participation was delivered to 35 young participants, helping them better understand the importance of having their voices heard and becoming active contributors to their communities.

The project concluded with a Youth Forum that brought together scouts from across North Macedonia. The forum provided a platform for young people to discuss volunteering, youth participation, and the future development of scouting, while exchanging ideas and experiences on how to strengthen youth engagement within their local communities.

Through Voices in Action, young people not only gained new knowledge but also had the opportunity to apply it in practice by planning activities, leading discussions, and inspiring their peers. The project demonstrated that when young people are given the right support and opportunities, they are ready to take initiative, become leaders, and create meaningful change in their communities.
